Imaging with FESEM Equipped with EDX Analysis

Microscopic Imaging Equipment

Today, there are several techniques for identifying and analyzing of materials; the most well-known of which are microscopic methods. With the aid of these methods, magnified images of a sample surface or its structure can be obtained. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) is one of the most recognized microscopic methods which not only produces magnified images, but also if equipped with additional equipment, it can be used for chemical analysis and other investigations. The operation mechanism is the interaction of electron beam with matter. The emitted radiations from this interaction can be used for the following investigations:

·         Imaging with high magnification and nanometer resolution

·         Semi-quantitative analysis by EDS analyzer for elements with atomic number higher than that of boron (B) and unknown specimens

·         Regional analysis, Spot analysis, Line scan, and Mapping analysis, identifying the matter and thickness of multilayer coatings with a thickness of less than 1 μm

·         Low-voltage imaging for evaluation of biological and polymer samples, as well as sample surface features

·         Three-dimensional imaging

·         Fractography and morphological examination of different types of samples (powder, bulk, etc.)

·         Determining particle size of nanopowders
